I came across an interesting post on Reddit about "VR sleep." Many users shared their experiences sleeping in VR, describing it as deeply immersive and comfortable. After reading the comments, I was inspired to try sleeping in VR myself. Below is a report on my experience and the changes I felt during the process.

VR sleep experience

First attempt: Preparing for the beginning I put on my VR headset ( Pimax Crystal Light ) and was ready to enter the virtual dream world. I selected the moon map in VRChat and was ready to experience my first VR sleep journey surrounded by beautiful moonlight, flowers, and soothing background music.

However, my first attempt was unsuccessful. Sitting in the chair was uncomfortable and I found myself trying to maintain the same position for long periods of time. I tried adjusting my posture, but it was difficult to find a comfortable position that didn't interfere with the VR experience. Overall, my first attempt was a bit disappointing.

Second attempt: Gradual adjustment

Not giving up, I made some adjustments on my second try: First, I found a more comfortable position so that my body was fully relaxed, and I also chose a softer pillow to better support my head while wearing the VR headset.

This time, I chose a landscape with a house surrounded by the sea and fireworks. Although the VR environment still felt a little unfamiliar, the experience was improved compared to the first time. I gradually adapted to the immersive feeling of VR, and was able to relax and fall asleep more easily.

Through many attempts: adaptation and discovery

After some trial and error, I gradually got used to sleeping in VR. More importantly, I discovered virtual worlds and environments that I enjoyed. These environments were not only beautiful, but also created a relaxing atmosphere that made it easier to fall asleep. Through continuous adjustments and experimentation, I was able to create a more relaxing sleeping environment in VR.

I found an interesting trick in the Reddit comments section: how to combine the real world with the virtual world. For example, if you're in a cold scene, you can lower the temperature in the room to simulate a more realistic sleeping environment. Also, if there's a rotating fan in the virtual world, you can actually turn it on and feel the cool breeze. This method is effective in increasing immersion in VR and improving your sleep experience.

However, some people may find it difficult to fall asleep in VR, so put on your favorite tunes, grab a drink, and enjoy the dreamy scenery.

Calvin (R&D)'s Experience

I've fallen asleep many times during my lunch break with the headset on: I put it on, switch to desktop view to check out new gameplay videos or sports highlights, and after about 15 minutes, autoplay in the background naturally lulls me to sleep.

Of course, there are comfortable chairs and an environment that allows for a good night's sleep, but please note that it can get hot if the room is not air-conditioned.

conclusion

Through many trials and adjustments, we have found that virtual reality can indeed be a tool for improving sleep. Even if your first experience isn't perfect, adapting to the equipment and optimizing your environment can provide a new way to relax. If you're interested in this method, please give it a try and adjust it based on your experience. You may find the sleep experience that's best for you.
